A vicious rumor that Facebook will be shutting down on March 15, 2012 has all social networking addicts pulling their hair out. According to a report made by Mashable and confirmed by CNN, this is not at all the case.
The rumors circulating around Facebook’s closure came from some quotes attributed to CEO Mark Zuckerburg. Apparently Zuckerberg “wants his old life back,” and wishes to “put an end to all the madness.”
Mashable contacted Facebook and got the real story. Larry Yu, Facebook’s Director of Corporate Communications quickly got back to them: “The answer is no, so please help us put an end to this silliness… We didn’t get the memo about shutting down and there’s lots to do, so we’ll just keep cranking away like always.”
So “like” away, Facebookers. Your favorite social networking site is here to stay.
According to comScore, in the US there is currently close to 40 million mobile users accessing social networks on there handheld devices on a day to day basis. Their new version of Android features Google + which is looking very promising for social networking.
The chart below displays traffic estimates by comScore. Based on data retrieved from mobile usage of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. As you can tell Facebook has many more mobile users than other platforms. But it seems to us like comScore underestimates the actual number of mobile users.
